                                                          Position: AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY

Scope

 

The Junior Academy Preschool Director will be a dynamic individual with previous preschool management experience. It requires a minimum of four years experience and holding educational credentials or Director’s credentials appropriate to operation of a preschool specializing in ages 2-5.  Responsibilities include curriculum development, meeting licensing requirements, managing staff, enrolling students, budgeting, maintaining food, and program development. 

 

Qualifications

The candidate shall possess characteristics that reflect: 

  • A strong clear Christian testimony with a mature and godly spirit
  • A daily example of the highest Christian virtue both in and out of school
  • Commitment to faithful attendance and support of a church whose beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith

The ideal candidate shall possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education preferred
  • 15 completed hours of health and safety training including pediatric CPR and pediatric first aid certifications
  • Four years qualified teaching experience in a preschool classroom environment
  • Proven leadership skills: ability to supervise dynamic and diverse staff
  • Excellent interpersonal skills & ability to deal with conflict
  • Excellent communication skills; written and verbal
  • Knowledge of budget, finance and licensing requirements

 

Responsibilities

Operations 

  • Supervise day-to-day operations of  preschool: supervise all children’s programs and ensure overall health/safety of the program
  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the School Age Care program for the elementary students
  • Work with Elementary Principal to assure policies and procedures are in compliance with Christian Academy School System
  • Actively promote the school, its philosophy and its mission
  • Attend school functions, Open Houses, and pertinent meetings
  • Oversee Junior Academy enrollment process 
  • Set up class sections based on schedule and student/adult ratios
  • Conduct tours of facility to potential families
  • Coordinate chapels

Curriculum

  • Responsible for ongoing development, evaluation and oversight of the Christ-centered, developmentally appropriate curriculum
  • Assist staff in the supervision and guidance of preschool children and deal with discipline challenges
  • Communicate and clarify school policies and philosophy to parents, teachers and other staff; orient and mentor new parents; orient and mentor new teachers
  • Conduct parent conferences in coordination with teachers
  • Advise and guide parents in the area of Kindergarten readiness
  • Write letters of recommendation in coordination with teachers
  • Review potential child development issues; assist teachers in the identification of developmental issues in children, advise and counsel parents regarding these issues, and refer parents to appropriate resources

Staff Management

  • Manage and schedule teaching staff and assistants work schedules, including summer and vacation breaks
  • Mentor and guide Junior Academy Teachers and assistants
  • Facilitate First Aide/CPR training through the school nurse
  • Conduct performance evaluations
  • Facilitate professional development workshops and seminars for the staff
  • Manage staff following school procedures, including employment, discipline, etc.
  • Coordinate Teacher/staff scheduling and classroom coverage
  • Coordinate staff recruitment and orientation with Elementary Principal and Human Resources Department
  • Keep apprised of current education requirements for all staff and ensure compliance

 

Outcomes

  • On-going enhancement and growth of the Junior Academy program, including curriculum development
  • Effective leadership, guidance and communication to the faculty and staff
  • Excellent academic, social, and emotional development for these young students as evidenced by readiness for kindergarten through informal assessments and observations                          

Reporting Relationship:

 

The Junior Academy Preschool Director will be responsible to the Elementary Principal.
