Job Description
Scope
The Teaching Assistant‘s primary duties are to support elementary and pre-school students with Down syndrome and collaborate with the Providence teacher as directed, by providing instruction to students creating and implementing modified materials and strategies as appropriate.
Qualifications
The candidate shall possess characteristics that reflect:
- A strong clear Christian testimony with a mature and godly spirit
- A daily example of the highest Christian virtue both in and out of school
- Commitment to faithful attendance and support of a church whose beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith
The ideal candidate shall provide/successfully complete the following:
- Previous professional experience with special needs children preferred
- Copy of High School diploma or transcript of highest degree earned
- TB test
- CPR & First Aid Training
- Criminal Records Check
- Child Abuse and Neglect Check (CAN)
- Must be 18 years of age
Accountabilities / Responsibilities
The Assistant shall:
- Be responsible for assisting the Providence Classroom Teacher
- Collaborate with typical classroom teacher to meet student needs
- Care for and treat each child with dignity and respect
- Help in preparation of necessary materials for lessons/activities
- Assist students with self-help skills which may include toileting, lunch, snack
- Attend and participate in all Providence School staff meetings
- Participate in recommended training programs, workshops, courses, etc. for professional growth as needed and in order to maintain preschool certification as needed
- Assistant will assure each child is treated with love and value and taught that God made him/her special
- Will pray for each teacher and student daily
