Description | Scope
The head coach interacts directly with coaches, parents and student-athletes as a representative of Christian Academy. He/she is to live and coach in such a way so that student-athletes are led to righteousness in every area of life, and in particular their athletic development.
Qualifications
The candidate shall possess characteristics that reflect:
- A strong clear Christian testimony with a mature and godly spirit that exhibits continued growth in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ
- Agreement with our staff commitment to live and exemplify the highest Christian virtue both in and out of school
- Commitment to faithful attendance and support of a church whose beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith
- A strong work ethic and effective interpersonal relationship-building skills
- Agreement and belief that The Bible is the final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind
The ideal candidate shall possess:
- Strong commitment to Christian Academy Mission Statement and athletic philosophy
- Ability to encourage partnerships with parents, coaches, students and other schools
- Managerial and coaching experience
Accountabilities/Responsibilities
- He/she will coach from a biblical perspective and strive to be a true reflection of Jesus Christ to our athletes.
- Coach will create a winning environment by displaying a positive attitude and providing daily encouragement to those under his/her leadership helping to build strong relationships
- Teaches athletes to perform sound, safe fundamental techniques of the designated sport throughout the season
- Coach will promote honesty, integrity, humility, loyalty, unity, and encourage total character development of our athletes.
- The head coach will promote and encourage the success of all other programs, emphasizing the need to share multi-sport athletes and to collaborate fruitfully with students, parents, and staff to balance our students’ investment in academics and the arts.
- Coaches will be responsible for establishing team rules. These pre-approved rules must be communicated to the team at the beginning of the season. These rules would include, but not limited to, practice attendance, lateness to practice or games, or care of uniforms/equipment.
- Coaches who are responsible for supervision of the gym/field will have a physical presence there at all times.
- Coaches should cover practice expectations in a pre-season meeting and/or informational letter.
- Recruit and hire competent and professional assistant coaches
- Varsity coaches shall advise and give direction to lower level squads in such areas as fundamentals, drills, patterns, offenses, defenses, conditioning, and coaching techniques.
- Monitor Christian Academy compliance with IHSAA rules and regulations
- Operate within the annual budget report and spending for the sport
- Supervise the coaching staff of the sport program on all levels to ensure athletes and coaches are growing spiritually
Outcomes
- Athletes instructed in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success based on the Christian Academy Athletic Handbook
- Christ-like relationships with students, parents, assistant coaches and administration
- Clear verbal and written communication with students, parents, assistant coaches and administration
- Student athletes will receive instruction that leads to the formation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline and self-confidence
- Recruit, hire, retain, and develop a competent and professional staff that supports excellence from the Athletics Department
