Job Description

Scope

 

The Behavior Intervention Paraprofessional’s are responsible for collaborating with teachers to assist with  instruction to individuals or small groups of students who need behavior support.  This position is also responsible for redirecting and monitoring student progress toward appropriate behaviors, administering intervention as needed.   Primarily, the paraprofessional will support early elementary and pre-school students by providing instruction  and guidance to students using behavior intervention strategies as appropriate.  

      

 

Qualifications

 

The candidate shall possess characteristics that reflect:

 

  • A strong clear Christian testimony with a mature and godly spirit 
  • A daily example of the highest Christian virtue both in and out of school 
  • Commitment to faithful attendance and support of a church whose beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith for Christian Academy School System
  • Agreement and belief that The Bible is the final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind

 

The ideal candidate shall prior to start date provide/successfully complete the following:

 

  • Copy of High School diploma or transcript of  highest degree earned
  • CPR & First Aid Training
  • Criminal Records Check
  • Child Abuse and Neglect Check (CAN)
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Previous professional experience with children, preferred
  • Behavior intervention training preferred

 

Accountabilities / Responsibilities

 

The Assistant shall:

  • Report to work from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Be responsible for assisting the classroom teachers
  • Collaborate with typical classroom teacher to meet student needs 
  • Care for and treat each child with dignity and respect
  • Provide classroom behavioral support 
  • Assist teacher, principal, JA director, and educational resource director with carrying out behavioral modification plans
  • Work with the student’s OT and Implement the OT’s recommended daily sensory diet for the student
  • Helping teachers and administrators collect A,B,C behavioral data
  • Attend and participate in team meetings
  • Participate in recommended training programs, workshops, courses, and other aspect so professional growth as needed 
  • Assure each child he/she is loved, that they have value, that God made them special (II Tim. 2:15) and pray for each teacher and student 
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to interact and collaborate with staff, students and families in a professional manner
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Help in preparation of necessary materials for lessons/activities
  • Perform all other duties as assigned



Outcomes

 

  • Ongoing assistance to early ed (primary and preschool) students

 

Reporting Relationship

 

The paraprofessional is responsible to the Classroom Teacher, the Elementary Academic Support Teacher, and dual reports to the Principal and Educational Resource Director.
